Invaluable Advice from the Hakim of Our Ummah

A man once asked Abū Al-Dardāʾ – Allāh be pleased with him – for advice. He said :   Remember Allāh in good times and He will mention you in hard times. When you remember those who have passed away , consider yourself like one of them. And when you think of involving yourself in some worldly matter, consider first what it will lead to in the end .   Al-Dhahabī in Siyar Aʿlām Al-Nubalāʾ, under the biography of Abū Al-Dardāʾ .

Be Lenient with the Faults of a Scholars

Muʿāfā b. ʿImrān said: The one who gets angry against a scholar is like someone who gets angry with the pillars of a mosque.   It is also reported from Im ām Al-Shāfiʿī       It was said to Sufyān b. ʿUyaynah, “People come to you from around the world, and [sometimes] you get angry with them? They might depart and leave you.” He replied, “In that case they would be fools like you, leaving what benefits them because of my bad character (behaviour).”

Choose Wisely

It is reported that ʿAlī b. Al-Ḥusayn b. ʿAlī b.ʾAbī Ṭālib (RA) said:   No man speaks well about another while not knowing it to be true except that he is also likely to speak badly about him without knowing it to be true. And two people do not accompany each other doing something that is not obedience to Allāh except that it is likely they will part from each other doing something that is not obedience to Allāh.

Hold on to the Sunnah with Your Molar Teeth

‘Abdullaah Ibn ‘Umar (RA) said:   “Every bid’ah is misguidance, even if people think it is good.”   [Al-Laalkaa’i in Sharh Usool I’tiqaad Ahl as-Sunnah wal-Jamaa’ah]
