True Wisdom Comes from Following Sunnah

‘Urwah b. Al-Zubayr – Allah have mercy on him – said: ‘Ā’ishah – Allah be pleased with her – gave seventy thousand (dirham) in charity, while her own skirt used to be patched.   Shaykh Al-Islām Ibn Taymīyah said: “It is as they said, for if a person does not follow what the Messenger came with he will act according to his own wishes. Thus he will be one who follows his desires without guidance from Allah.”   A man once asked Ka’b, “Which illness cannot be treated?” “Death”, he replied. The son of Zayd b. Aslam [d136H] said: My father said, “There is one treatment for death: gaining the pleasure of Allah ‘azza wa jall.”   Al- Ḥ asan Al-Ba ṣ r ī – Allah have mercy on him – said: Faith ( ī m ā n) is not by embellishment or wishful thinking, but it is what settles in the heart and is verified through your works. Whoever says good but does not do good will have his words compared to his deeds by Allah. Whoever says good and does good wil...
Repent to Allah (SWT)   Abu Bakr al-Maruthi said: I visited Ahmad ibn Hanbal one morning and said to him: "How are you?" He answered: "How is the one whose Rabb requires to perform his duties, whose Prophet requires to flow the Sunnah, the two angels require that he rectifies his deeds, his human self requires him to follow its desires, Satan requires him to commit evil deeds, the angel of death requires him to give his life and his children require him to satisfy their needs."   A man once asked Abū Al-Dardāʾ   (RA) for advice. He said: “Remember Allāh in good times and He will mention you in hard times. When you remember those who have passed away, consider yourself like one of them. And when you think of involving yourself in some worldly matter, consider first what it will lead to in the end.”   Commenting on 2:201 of the Quran which states: Our Lord! Give us the good of this world and the good of the hereafter…   Al-Hasan Al-Baṣrī...

Be Sincere and Stay by What Has Been Decided

It is reported that Imām Al-Shāfi’ī said, “This hadīth (actions are judge by intentions) constitutes a third of all knowledge, and it relates to seventy areas of fiqh (correct understanding of the religion).”   It is reported from Imām Ahmad that he said, “The foundations of Islām are upon three hadīth: the one reported by ʿUmar – ‘Actions are but by intentions’, the one reported by ‘Āishah – ‘Whoever does a deed that does not conform to our commands will have it rejected’ and the one reported by Al-Nu’mān b. Bashīr – ‘The halāl and harām are clear…’”   `Ali ibn Abi Talib said: "Whoever has the following six characteristics does all that is required to make him enter Paradise and avoid Hell: To know Allah subhanahu wa ta`ala and obey him, to know Satan and disobey him, to know the truth and follow it, to know the falsehood and avoid it. To know the life of this world and renounce it, and to know the Hereafter and seek it."   Ataa al Khurasani...

The People of Hadith

Muhammad bin al-Husayn bin ‘Ali said: “The heart of a person is never afflicted with the slightest bit of arrogance except that his intelligence and sanity is decreased because of that in accordance with how much of that arrogance has entered his heart.” [Ihya’ ‘Ulum ad-Din, 3/400]   Ibn ‘Umar once heard a man sneezing and saying, “Praise be to Allah and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah.” Ibn ‘Umar said to him:   “This is not what the Messenger of Allah taught us to do. Rather, he said, ‘When any one of you sneezes, let him praise Allah (by saying Al-Hamdu Lillaah).’ He did not say, ‘and send blessings upon the Messenger of Allah.’” [At-Tirmidhi in his Sunan with a hasan isnad]   ‘Abdullaah Ibn Ja’far addressed his daughter saying: “Avoid jealousy, as it is the key to your divorce – avoid complaint, as it instigates anger – adorn yourself for him, and make sure you wash away any bad odours by frequent bathing.” []   Regard...
